Just Imagine: National Council of Negro Women Bethune-Height Recognition Program

The Bethune Recognition Program –  What it is and how it works

The Bethune Recognition Program is a national fund-raising event in support of the current work of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Inc.  It provides a unique opportunity for individuals such as life, legacy, associate members, officers, staff, national affiliates, and friends to gibe or raise funds to strengthen the financial base of the NCNW, Inc.

Since 1975, NCNW members across the country have sustained the momentum of the first Bethune Recognition Event to assure the continuity of the NCNW’s service by working together in the “Bethune Manner” to translate into action our underlying concepts of Commitment,Unity, and Self-Reliance.

Today we are honoring those special individuals who have accepted the challenge to become a Bethune Achiever, Life Member, or Legacy Life Member.  They will be presented with certificates as deserved recognition for their personal achievement of their financial commitment.

What began as an idea of Mary Jane McLeod Bethune to unite women to secure justice has grown into a multi-faceted, community-based organization that works at the national, state, local and international level.  Since its inception, NCNW has encouraged African American women to serve as catalysts for societal change.  As NCNW looks toward the future, Mrs. Bethune’ s views on the role of black women have become more compelling.  The NCNW, Inc. is carrying on the work she started.  It respects the imperative that she mandated — “NCNW must provide vision and organized power.”

To develop national strategies for grassroots mobilization, the NCNW, Inc. has established the National Centers for African American Women and the Dorothy I. Height Leadership Institute to serve as the “nerve center” for idea exchange and action.  Besides the work of the Centers, NCNW, Inc. sponsors events and activities that promote community empowerment, build on the rich heritage, traditional values, and historic strengths of the African American family, and celebrate the legacy of Mary Jane McLeod Bethune.

Women of all backgrounds are invited and welcome to join NCNW, Inc. and to “Live the Legacy” she left for us.  Make your commitment today!
