Welcome

Greeting from President, Pomona Valley Section:

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the website of the Pomona Valley Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW).

NCNW is a historic civil rights organization committed to advancing opportunities and
improving the quality of life for African American women. Founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune, NCNW’s mission is to lead, develop, and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities. NCNW reaches nearly 4 million women through wellness projects, economic empowerment, career development and signature events such as the Black Family Reunion Celebration and the Bethune-Height Recognition Program. Since its founding in 1935, NCNW has played a prominent leadership role in unifying African American women and advocating for causes that affect their lives and families.

The Pomona Valley Section of NCNW was chartered on May 1986, by 50 paid members to
serve families in  Southern California’s Pomona Valley. In harmony with the national
initiatives,  the Pomona Valley Section promotes unity of actions among all women in matters affecting educational, cultural, economic, social, and civic life. The Section’s goals are to: strengthen family life; promote cultural enrichment; foster continued education of children and youth; and promote community pride.

We are proud, excited and look forward to implementing our community-outreach programs and supporting our Youth Group which seeks to inspire the leaders of tomorrow to make a difference in their communities today.

Sincerely,

Shirley Butler-Hughes
President
Pomona Valley Section, NCNW, Inc
